Frequently asked questions
What is Hypnotherapy?
It harnesses the problem-solving creative nature of the mind to release established patterns of behaviour, decondition ways of thinking and feeling, and release trauma. By using hypnosis, this therapy produces surprising changes which spring from unconscious releases and make way to both unconscious and conscious new learning.
It works by changing how you think, how you feel and how you react. It helps your unconscious mind make the changes you need. It helps you break habits, remove phobias and stop cravings. It helps you let go of fears that might have been holding you back, even if you’ve had them for years. It enhances your sense of self worth and increases your self confidence. No will power is needed as you make the changes unconsciously so it feels natural.
What is Hypnosis?
There are many other times that people enter a natural state of trance. Driving, watching TV, listening to music, working on a favorite hobby or activity in the “flow” state. These are all “altered states of consciousness,” and all are various levels of trance. Trance is normal, natural and common.
Some people leave their first hypnotherapy session saying, “I wasn’t hypnotised – I knew what was going on the whole time!” Well of course you did! Hypnosis is not a state of amnesia or of no awareness. Just the opposite true, in fact: hypnosis is a state of very heightened awareness and focus.
The media has perpetrated many myths about hypnosis, and not remembering anything from the hypnosis session is one of those myths. Only under special circumstances would a person forget everything from a session.
Much more can be accomplished when the person undergoing hypnosis remembers everything.
What can't be treated with hypnotherapy?
Drug addiction, family dynamics disorders, clinical depression and other such problems need to be treated by doctors and psychiatrists, who can, at their discretion, prescribe hypnotherapy as a supplementary treatment.
Will I bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken?
Hypnosis can not make you do something that is against your morals or ethics. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, in truth, and no hypnotist can make you do something that you really don’t want to do. That’s why some people can be hypnotised to stop smoking and yet they still smoke. You have to want the change, agree with the change, and then hypnosis is an instrument for helping make that change better, faster, and permanent.
Will I lose control?
My friend tried hypnosis to quit smoking and it didn't work.
Whilst sitting in a room with 50 other people in a seminar, or listening to a stop-smoking CD can work, it is usually much more effective to have a personalised session with a hypnotherapist, who can customise the approach, language and replacement suggestions to match your lifestyle and circumstances.
Isn't Hypnosis dangerous?
Hypnosis has been practised for more than a century. Since 1955 it has been recognised by the British Medical Association as an approved treatment and it has now developed into a science. There is a section devoted to medical hypnosis at the Royal Society of Medicine in London.
Will it work?
Research has shown that 93% of clients recover after 6 sessions of Hypnotherapy. This research clearly demonstrated that Hypnotherapy works faster than Behavioural therapy (CBT) and faster than Psychoanalysis and that Hypnotherapy displayed a higher percentage of success with 93% success rate.
Science is demonstrating how our mind is directly responsible for the state of our immune system and for most processes of health or illness which affect our lives. By addressing both mind and body, hypnotherapy seeks to develop the resources and equilibrium necessary for health and wellbeing.
However in order to get the best results a client must be motivated and committed to the changes they want.

At our first meeting we initially chatted over a cup of tea, from this first chat Nicki picked up on some issues I had, things I had not even realised were major issues in my life. She very successfully helped with these making a much bigger difference to my life than either of us realised at the time. The result of our first couple of sessions was me suddenly having a lightbulb moment that changed my life totally.
